Intro
"Arm yourself with digital wings, express yourself with digital wings, and fight back against injustice with digital wings." This is the rallying cry of the Wing Warriors, a group of digital avatars who have taken up the fight against gender-based violence, homophobia, and terrorism. Through their use of digital wings, the Wing Warriors embody the power of technology to empower individuals and challenge oppressive systems.
The Wing Warriors project focuses on creating promotional animations for digital wings, a tool that allows individuals to express themselves in new and powerful ways. In addition, three pairs of digital wings were designed and customized for three interviewees, each of whom has a unique story to tell about their experiences of oppression and resistance.
At the heart of the Wing Warriors project is a recognition of the urgent need to confront the growing wave of violence and hatred that is sweeping across the world. Gender-based violence, in particular, has become a pervasive and insidious problem, with women and LGBTQ+ individuals facing daily threats to their safety and well-being. Homophobic groups seek to control people's fears and eliminate "strangers" in their midst, while terrorist attacks continue to spread fear and chaos.
Against this backdrop of darkness and despair, the Wing Warriors stand as a beacon of hope and resilience. Their wings symbolize the power of technology to transform individuals and communities, enabling them to soar above the constraints of oppression and injustice. As they take to the streets, their wings flapping with a furious energy, they inspire others to join the fight for justice and equality.
Through its evocative animations and powerful storytelling, the Wing Warriors project seeks to raise awareness of the urgent need to confront gender-based violence and other forms of oppression. It invites viewers to imagine a future in which all individuals are free to express themselves, and to consider the role that digital technology can play in making that vision a reality.
